ABOUT US

Latigo is a Landscape Design firm proudly serving Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. We specialize in creating ecologically attuned gardens, inspired by the natural beauty and resilience of Southern California and the Central Coast.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We see landscapes as living dialogues between nature, architecture, and your vision. Our goal is to enhance the natural character of each space, creating site-specific landscapes that engage the senses, feel inviting and deeply personal.

Our sustainable designs use less water, require less maintenance, and contribute to a healthier environment. We create gardens that attract songbirds and pollinators, promote biodiversity and thrive naturally with minimal intervention.

A GARDEN AS UNIQUE AS YOUR HOME

We don't impose templates, we cultivate individuality. As landscape designers, we recognize that our work comes to life only when it is experienced. An environment gains meaning through interaction, and we design with this in mind. Each garden is a living, breathing expression of its place and people who cherish it.

IN TANDEM WITH YOU

We are committed to making the design process a collaborative and rewarding experience- one that results in timeless spaces meant to be lived in, loved, and passed down for generations.

We start by listening, to you and to the land. We consider soil, sunlight, placement, scale and function. The right plant for the right place means selecting plants that will not just survive but flourish. And we think long-term. A garden is more than a static creation, it's a dynamic ecosystem. We design, install and maintain landscapes that evolve, endure and remain vibrant for years to come.

Site Evaluation, Plant Selection & The Planting Plan

We care about soil composition, how water moves through the site, the amount of direct sunlight the site receives, if there is any marine influence present. We consider existing plants found on the property, the way plants interact with each other: their water needs, plant communities and proper plant spacing. All these factors are essential when designing and determining plant selection. We will evaluate your site with the above mentioned considerations, and work with you on a planting plan. We can also team up with experienced contractors who can provide other services: retaining walls, steps, lighting... Anything your landscape might need beyond the plants.

Planting & Establishing

We are experts in sourcing and procuring the selected plants that are healthy and ready to be planted. We make any necessary soil amendments and install irrigation, if needed. Watering by hand is always best during the plant establishing period, but we understand that this is not always possible. Installing drip irrigation or small sprayers is a great alternative. We will make sure that the new plantings are happy, and have the best chance of survival. Also, that the new plants grow their roots and establish well. After the establishing period, we can slowly taper off watering schedule and reduce it to monthly or bi-monthly, depending on site and soil conditions and plant selection.

Care & Maintenance

We offer periodic site visits to make sure that the plants are happy and properly cared for.  We can talk to your gardener about pruning and caring for the selected plants. Pruning is done seasonally - a couple of times a year, during specific months and growth cycles, depending on the plant. We are here to protect your garden against any potential pests as well. Having a well designed and maintained garden is essential for long term enjoyment.  A well designed and well hydrated garden can offer a lasting beauty as well as act as a fire retardant or a barrier, thus protecting your home. We can work with you to continuously improve and scale the garden of your dreams.
